I didn't know I loved the sun
It's warm, bright light surrounding us like a blanket
I didn't know I loved the rain
It's wet, cool, water gracefully falling down out of the sky
I didn't know I loved chocolate
It's sweet, milky, creamy, goodness melting in my mouth
I didn't know I loved the lions
Swiftly running through the safari in the bright afternoon
I didn't know I loved the ocean
As it turns over boats in the middle of nowhere.
Ride a shooting star,
With a starry tail,
Through the pitch black sky,
Ride it way up high.
Ride a shooting star,
Over the moon
Soaring in the sky
At least once, before you die.
Ride a shooting star,
Before you die
At least once
Ride up high in the sky
Soaring like a bird
Way up high,
Ride a shooting star over the moon.
I am from the dusty streets,
And from the few that are paved.
From the blazing heat,
That comes in waves.
I am from, caring uncles,
Aunts, cousins and parents.
I am from the uncle, who is an author and engineer,
And from the one who is a vet.
From all of the hard working family members.
I am from the good food that is cooked,
By my mom, and aunts.
I am from the injera, the wot, pasta and salad.
From my mom's stuffed lasagna,
And from her wonderful chicken.
I am from the early mornings,
And from the countless photos.
I am from the many books,
Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Eragon and countless others,
And the bookshelves that are filled with them,
And from where giving your best is expected.
I am from homework first and fun later,
From family first then on to friends.
This is where I am from.
In the dim, cool Florida night
We sit, waiting, counting every second until it is your turn to light up the sky
Hundreds of people crowded together, waiting for you to start the show of colors and lights
Then, suddenly the music starts
And your bright, wonderful breathtaking lights light up the sky
Like fairies dancing in the starless night
We try to capture your beauty, but fail
For nothing can capture such a sight as this
We keep watching, waiting for what is to come next
Beautiful colors of every kind,
Your breathtaking array of colors illuminates the dark starless night
From tomato red to bright blue, and from ivy green to pale white
We sit, not wanting for you to end your show
Waiting, guessing when the end would come
Not wanting the end to come, ever
And when it is over,
We sit and stare,
Stunned by the beauty of it all
Amazed,
Stunned,
Wowed,
Then when the second is over, we stand and clap
For you have amazed us,
Fourth of July fireworks don't even come close to this,
Your greatness surpasses them all
